Audio Engineering / Design

My Primary focus is in Engineering. I absolutely love mixing microphones and running microphones for a show, it brings me a lot of joy and fulfilment. I also tend to design quite frequently as well, and that is something that also allows me to connect to my love of theatre.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

This production was my thesis for my degree at Columbus State University. My duties included Audio Engineer and Audio Designer. I live mixed an orchestra and 13 body microphones. I also designed the sound effects, which included funny death sounds such as squishes and flashes as well as over 20 voiceovers.

Foolish to Think (Reprise): The ending of this musical number contained one of the audience favorite deaths! This included a mix of microphone and orchestra mixing as well as my own Audio Design of the fall and splat sound effect.
Poison in My Pocket: This number included several lines of singing overlaping one another, which was challenging and fun to mix with the live orchestra. This ending also included a fan favorite death, as the couple falls through the ice with a crack and splash!
Why Are All the D’Ysquiths Dying (Reprise): Included a fun ensemble number that helps open the second act accompanied by a fun live orchestral tune.

Something
Rotten

I worked as the Audio Engineer for this production, solely working on setting up and mixing the microphones for this musical.

Will Power: This is one of my favorite ensmeble pieces in Something Rotten.
Bottom’s Gonna Be On Top: This is also a fantastic example of ensemble in this production.
We See The Light: Just another example of ensemble, but it is my favorite number of the production we did at CSU so I just had to allow you all to witness it for yourself!

MacBeth

My position during this production of MacBeth was Audio Designer and Engineer, as we mic’d the witches for their musical rendition of their curse. I ran the microphones before intermission and after intermission, which we placed in the middle of the Witch’s scene in Act 4.

MacBeth’s Dagger Monologue: As the Audio Designer, I had the pleasure to do some awesome work with underscores in this produciton, including during the reveal of the dagger in MacBeth’s iconic monologue.
MacBeth – Banquo’s Banquet: This is also another great example of the underscoring utilized in this production. The shift in the tone of this scene furthers the feelings of uneasiness and otherworly experience that MacBeth is feeling.

Trouble in Mind

I had the pleasure of working as the Audio Designer for the Columbus State University production of Trouble in Mind in the spring of 2023. The production was not very demanding in terms of the audio design, but it did provide me with an amazing experience of running a recording session with three amazing women who sang and worked together to create the sound for our preshow. I then, after the recording session, added a vinyl sound that replicated the audio quality of a 1950s vinyl.
